MIDI Mapping

Still trying to decide if I have a problem. Have reinstalled system, swapped MIDI card etc still no joy. Can someone who uses HUI and preferably with Logic confirm if the HUI channels display meters on either the D8B or its GUI as I do not get anything on mine. HUI seems to work fine other than this so wondering if I do indeed have a faulty MID cable?

An update: I still cannot get bidirectional control via MIDI Mapping no matter what I try. Yet it works in HUI.

I also noticed metering was not working in the HUI layer (did not even notice it cold do this until I saw Tyler's recent video). Anyway after lots of tests discovered if I used Logic 9.1.1 they worked but did not in 9.1.3 so something got broken in the update as I reinstalled the pdate and it still does not work.

Has anyone else got a Mac and Logic and can get bidirectional MIDI via a Mapped fader?

One extra quirk, if I switch off HUI for about 5 seconds I can control a MIDI mapped fader from Logic. It seems like there is a delay in HUI actually going off and in this time period MIDI gets through. Sounds mad, does this tell us anything?

At Least I can know my video helped someone out I am ordering a new midi break out cable as mine is not genuine either. Ill get back to you if this works

If you go a new breakout cable, you'd be best off to get one made as per the instructions in the database. The ones sold on ebay are known to be incorrect and I don't think Mackie have any more originals.

I think I will probably make do with HUI but I just wanted to check something. It seems to me I can get a MIDI Mapped fader to receive feedback from the D8B only when HUI is switched off (and only when I use a 3rd party software called LC XMU by Opus Locus that emulates a Logic Control and creates a virtual MIDI port). So is this right as I have read others state to use HUI for transport as well as MIDI mapping? Or is this an issue only on a Mac?

I have checked the MIDI card, reinstalled the system, trashed Logic prefs, checked the MIDI breakout etc to no avail. What stumps me is that HUI works both ways fine, so surely if it was a MIDI communication error this would not work either?

I have even tried a different MIDI interface just in case.

IIRC, HUI and midi mapping never worked nicely together. If you use midi mapping, then MMC covers the transport functions and a whole lot more.

Does anyone have a list of what D8B buttons are mapped to in the MIDI Map window. For instance can the Select, Write and Solo buttons be mapped out on a channel? Some of the names are a bit nonsensical and I cannot work out whats available.

As a last effort am trying the Opus Locus software I mentioned earlier as it can emulate Logic Control and theoretically its possible to map 24 channels as 3 x MCUs with it. Trying to see if I can make it work with HUI switched off as this seems to prevent Logic from sending MIDI back to the D8B.

"Select" is a d8b internal protocol so, no mapping. Can't see why you'd want to. Similarly, so is "Write". "Solo" mutes all channels other than the solo channel(s) so if your mutes are correctly assigned, then correct operation will occur in Logic.

BTW, I've established that if you use HUI mode, it takes over most of the MIDI system so it and MIDI mapping, essentially, are mutually exclusive.

Well I managed to find a command for the assign button which could be assigned to Logic's Select button which selects the channel you wish to control. My reason for wanting to use Write and Assign etc is that these are mapped in HUI. For instance Write in HUI controls Logic automation.

I can't keep up. One minute you call it "select", next it's "assign". I think of assign as groups 1 - 8(24) which aren't available on the control surface as a button. If you needed to use select in Logic, why wouldn't you be doing that on the computer? That's where Logic's parameters are.
