Bloody hell help please !!!!

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!! I decided to finally update from v3 to 5.1 and has taken up most of my day trying to get it to work!!
First off my floppy drive appeared to be not reading disks after much messing formatting on the pc and different disks to no avail I used a floppy drive cleaning disk on the cpu, hey presto it cured the problem of disks not being read.

Because I had never checked my d8bs configuration it had never occured to me that I may have less than 32 mb of memory so when I was finally greeted with the lovely ver5 slash screen my happiness was quelled by the error messsage of not enough memory I found some old ram pc133 128 mb and installed it, my MB has SD slots as well as the older dimms which has I guess 2x8 mb sticks in. Anyway it appeared to load then kept re-booting. I now have a d8b which was working perfectly this morning now in bits and not working, plus Im £100 lighter for the privalidge!!

The bottom line can someone please sell me or direct me to some memory which will put my d8b back in business

RAM needs to be pc100 or pc133 backwards compatible.

Thanks peter its just that I have several sticks of 133 but they don't tend to state if they are backward compatible on them.

plus the slots seem quite strange fitting, quite shallow maybe, I have already broken one of the plastic guides trying to get the ram stick to snap in

maybe better off using the older dimm slots?

Those sticks of RAM should have some numbers on them some where. type that number into google and it might pop up what it is and give you details on it.

Make sure you are putting the RAM in the correct way. I don't know if you've done this type of thing before but yes it does matter which direction the stick goes in. The fact you broke off a piece to me says that you were trying to force something that wasn't supposed to go.

Also buying new PC100 RAM isn't that hard or expensive unless the place your looking at is price gouging.

Don't leave the old RAM in there. It's pointless. The slots are tight and require considerable pressure to fully install. Best to place something under the board to prevent damage (like an eraser or such). Do a search and find out if your new RAM is backwards compatible or get pc100 sticks. They're as cheap as chips

Says the man replacing RAM at his leisure --- I am laughing with you of course of course.

I seem to remember that backwards compatible was recommended and that two sticks of 128 for a total of 256MB (the total most d8b CPU’s will recognize) was also recommended by Mackie. I am equally sure that a larger amount will work but will not be recognized or be able to be utilized; it will only see the 256MB. Easy enough to get two sticks of 128MB and optimize the CPU per Mackie recommendation.

Update! I knew that old akai s2000 would come in useful one day! It became the donor of 32 mb which I added to the original 16mb so I'm back up again yippee!

One more thing I installed plugin pack 3 which has installed all plugins which I don't own or I'm unlikely to, how can I remove them as I notice they use up some memory even though they are not assigned?

Kul, good, glad. As far as SP3 goes, it has all the plugs installed to be able to audition them and then buy the license code if you want any of them. I am very sure there is not a way to remove just the plug-ins.
So by my math, you have 48MB of good RAM now. The plugin real estate isn't that large, but if it is a problem I would add the needed RAM as suggested above.

Yes I'm happy, but I see graphic redraw performance slower compared to os ver 3 I guess this is cured by installing more memory?

I notice on mackies d8b FAQs it says you must use double sided SIMM if using one stick of 256 mb? Has anyone successfully installed single sided sticks which work?

By the way I have the older 166 MHz CPU.
I also noticed that the FAQ says you must set hard disk to auto select in the bios to detect new memory? Hmmm maybe my other sticks may have worked had I done this?

Sorry lots of questions, I'm just wary because my d8b was performing flawlessly on ver 3 so I was very apprehensive about rocking the boat, also my CPU is tucked neatly away in an enclosure I like to know it's going to work before I take it out!
