Rail Cap OR AMP Connector

Postby khowell » Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:11 am

Anyone ever experienced some of the same symptoms of the "rail capacitor" problem because of a problem with the big round plug on that plugs into the console? In my case ONLY the master section's v-pots and displays blink on and off. I also get the wonderful thumping. Its been doing this on and off for at least 6 years.

I ask because sometimes and I can grab the cable and or the connector and give it a slight twist and it goes away... making me wonder if its a intermittent solder joint in the connector.

I took the AMP connector apart today becuase the console did "the flashy thing" many more tries than usual and quickly decided that I didn't want to even attempt to untwist the wire and check each connection.... the days of sharp eyes and steady soldering hands have passed for this guy... I put it back together and after a couple of false starts, the console started up and ran for hours like normal.

Leaves me with the slight hope that I can find someone to take a look at the connector- fix the problem and I'll get another 10 years out of the console....

Does anyone know of a source for that cable and/or a pin-out diagram?

I had an issue with my faders 17-22 flashing and getting the thumping sound on start up occasionaly. When I wiggled the cable it would fix it sometimes. I re arranged my CPU cards - the midi and the network etc and it has not done it since. Might just be the order that your PC is reading the signals.

Worth a shot at least!
