right, so the other cable that has the other connectors is not for the d8b,

the one with the wires on it had 2 midis in out, it also appears to have the world click style connections and 2 female red white rca connectors, the guy that sold me the desk said it was for it no?

so im using the right one, that just has 2 midi that connect to the d8b cpu?

What you described sounds like a breakout cable for an RME product maybe the 9632 or something. The midi connector should only have midi connections on it.

After reading Sweck's last response and Casey's reply, I'm literally doing a "facepalm".

Could one of two things happen here? Could a kindly D8B owner with a factory issued "floppy" MIDI connector post a photo? Or could Sweck post a photo of the two connectors he mentioned earlier? One of these should settle it.

However, I'm inclined to agree with Casey's assumption... (although the connector could be from any number of card manufacturers. KORG, EMU, RME...etc. all issued similar breakout connectors).

If both of Sweck's connectors turn out to be something other than the correct type, it'll be time to steer him into the Archive for the info on rolling his own.

Not only that but there are hundreds of systems that use breakout cables and these are not limited to the pro audio world. A multimeter is your friend - when in doubt tone it out!

Just my 9-volt,
