Controlling Adobe Audition 3 with D8B

Postby lintonl » Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:45 am

Hi folks. I was wondering if someone could give me some direction with getting the transport on my D8B to control Adobe Audition 3. Here's a little about my rig:

Adobe Audition 3 running on an HP Quad core PC (windows Vista 64) with 8gb of ram
Running audio out a SIIG firewire 400 card into the M-Audio lightbridge
Running lightpipe from the DIO cards in and out on the D8B to and from the Lightbridge
Running MIDI to and from the D8B through the Lightbridge
Running the word clock from the lightbridge into the apogee card in on the D8B

So here's what happens:
Tried using Audition as the master with word clock on the D8B slaved to the lightbridge. checked SMPTE/MTC master enable; checked midi ports. The MIDI Out light on the light bridge is illuminated when I click play on AA3 so I'm guessing that MTC is being transmitted to the D8B. Also see that the MIDI In light on the lightbridge illuminates when I press play on the D8B (whether in HUI mode or not)

Tried using the D8B word clock as the master and slaved the lightbridge

Tried putting the D8B in HUI mode then starting AA3...when I do that, the D8B shows "online" for a few seconds (approx 5) then goes offline. The time code is blank as well.
Really I don't need to control much in AA3 from the D8B, but I would like to see MTC displayed on the console and be able to use the transport on the D8B.
Is there anyway to tell which midi channel adobe and the D8B is sending/receving on?

I also read a post on here that someone switched the MIDI and ethernet cards around on the D8B's CPU and got theirs to work. I have tried that as well. Anyway, anybody got any suggestions?

My set up is as follows...

D8B lightpiped to - M-Audio Lightbridge
Apogee Clock card to light bridge
D8B midi in and out to lightbridge

Lightbridge firewired to PC

Using Apogee clock as the master I am able to run Cubase studio 4 fine with my d8b as the ins and outs. Any questions I will do my best to answer.

Thanks Pat.
I've used the Apogee card as both the mastser and the slave (not at the same time of course). Found out that the D8B will read MTC in the 30 fps mode but not midi clock format(bars/beats). I've got the time code on the D8B to sync to Audition but still can't get the transport to function. Time code on the D8B can be switched on the d8B to Bars/Beat by pressing the time format button to the left of the display but Audition has to send MTC in the standard 30fps for it to work and the tempo set in the D8B has to match the tempo in the audition project.
Anyway, I will continue to try different things!

Adobe Audition has the Mackie Control option listed in the external controller protocol list. I think I read somehwere that it is slightly different than HUI.

I was just trying to figure out if there was some way of just getting Audition to respond to the midi commands that get sent from the D8B. Anybody have a way of making up a midi map in Audition?

I could always use my BCF2000 to control the DAW. I'm really only using my D8B for tracking anyway.

BTW - Udating the firmware on the lightbridge was a beast! I was having problems setting it up at first. I started the update at about 11pm and just left it overnight. I don't know how long it really took, but it was much more than 2 minutes! After it finally updated and I plugged up the apogee properly set up the clock settings, it went right to work! It seems to be pretty rock solid!

Ya I like using my BCF2000 better for contolling cubase... it controlls the same amount of channels.
