Sample Rate With AIO-8 Cards

Postby Freqabeat » Fri Mar 23, 2012 5:03 pm

Hi all, new to the d8b forum and 2 weeks into owning a d8b myself, and I'm very excited. I won't prolong my question, so I'll jump right into it.

I am currently running my d8b with 3 Motu 2408’s (1 mk3 and 2 mk1’s). But I want the option to be able to run at 192k (or at least 96k) and I know that’s not possible via the OPT-8 or the DIO-8, but is it possible over the AIO-8? I am looking into upgrading my 2408’s to the Motu HD192’s to run into my Pro Tools HD9 setup. Any ideas?

The AIO.8 is an analog card, so it's signal is converted from inside the console with the limitations of what the d8b can convert from, being 24 bit/44.1 or 48... The conversion on the other side will be whatever that device converts at, so in theory you can do it with AIO.8 cards. I personally would stick with staying digital at 24 bit/44.1 and not do the extra conversions. It all becomes 16 bit or mp3 in the end anyway.

That's not strictly true. The AIO-8 card has the same converters as are in the desk. I do agree, however, with your other advice.

Hairs were made for splitting. Otherwise the shampoo companies would be all at sea.
