New Video of D8Bridge - For *Mac Users*

Postby Marc Girard » Tue Apr 03, 2012 2:41 am

Hello everyone,

I just finished testing a concept of mine I wanted to work on for a while. It turns out that my idea works good! I installed a slimmed-down Windows XP on my D8B's computer allowing me to run D8Bridge *DIRECTLY* on the D8B. Why do you ask? Well, by running D8Bridge on the D8B's computer, I can send the MCU controls over Ethernet and use MIDI over IP. This allows any *Macintosh* computers or Windows PCs to receive what D8Bridge transmit/receive.

Have a look at the following video:

Let me know what you guys think! :)

Hey Dave,

That's just the beginning! :) It's a "demo", I'm testing stuff for D8Bridge v2.0. I've got more stuff down the drain I want to test. Thanks for the feedback.

If people are going to have to install a basic form of XP why not just use Ubuntu? It's free to download, and not everyone is gonna have a version of XP laying around.

Not sure if the d8b can handle it spec wise but if it can handle XP surely it can handle that.

Just a thought,

Well, my goal would be to run an embedded, headless (almost) D8Bridge on the D8B that would communicate via Ethernet. I'd probably compile my own Linux Kernel for faster/leaner operation. Ubuntu is good but bloated for my use... I'm investigating on these topics these days. XP was just an experiment to see if the P166 would hold. :)

Right on. I figured you had already put thought into it. Was really curious what your overall goal was for this. When you say embedded are you talking about having it run along side the existing OS making it possible to use the audio portion of the board? That would be killer!

I'm not well versed in this realm of development so I'm just throwing out ideas weather they be good or bad. Keep up the good work!

Marc you are doing a great job and we all really appreciate you keeping these great boards alive today. I am a Mac user, Digital Performer and Pro Tools, will this be able to run on those two platforms when you are completed? And if so will the D8b still be able to be used as a recording mixer also. I'm pretty excited. Thanks

Hi,

First of all my apologies if I'm replying to the wrong topic with my question. I'm completely new in the world of the D8B and am very curious about the D8Bridge. Because the core of my setup is a Mac Pro 3.1, running on OSX 10.8.2 I noticed this topic about the D8Bridge for Mac.
Is the D8Bridge an add-on to the Mackie 5.1 software or does this work as a replacement? I have to decide whether I will buy an older D8B with software 3 or something (this one is cheaper, but I will most likely have to buy a new upgrade to 5.1) OR buy one which already has been updated to 5.1.

I want to have the possibilities to use the D8B as stand-alone Digital Mixer as well as DAW Controller for Cubase and Protools on my Mac.
Will D8Bridge V2 make that possible?

I'm really eager to spend my money on D8Bridge, but I'm a mac user.

We're patiently waiting Marc, ever for a beta version for osx.
