Shame on you, Mackie!!!

Shame on you, Mackie!!!

Postby Dan Worley » Tue Jul 06, 2010 12:52 am

How rude of Mackie to shut down the d8b and hdr forums without a warning or any kind of notice. That's in very bad form. I shouldn't be surprised. Ever since the d8b was discontinued, Mackie has treated us like dirt. I'll find it hard (if not impossible) to spend my money on any of their products again. They used to be great to deal with, but now they (as a company) have that new-age, corporate attitude which I can't stand.

We really shouldn't be that shocked. Both items have been out of production for many years and the company has become.... well darn close as well. Stopped by their booth at Infocomm in Vegas a few weeks back and it was basically a table with some brochures and several cans of soda but nobody was manning the booth. If they have given up on themselves, should we be shocked they have given up on us. Both were good or perhaps great products for their time but they chose not to stay in that business and we therefore are of zero value to them. Too bad on all fronts.

Yeah, but we buy other things, Dave. For instance, I have been seriously considering buying a 1640i. I've used one a few times and thought it was a nice piece of equipment. I like being able to easily record separate tracks to a laptop while also using it for FOH or monitors. I like recording rehearsals that way, too.

But now, I just can't see myself spending any money on a Mackie product. This feeling didn't come over me all of the sudden. It's been growing for some time, and this slight has pushed me over the edge. I just don't like what the company has turned into. I don't have any trust in them anymore--as far as customer support, satisfaction, and loyalty goes.

I would have felt better about it if they would have posted a sincere Thank You and Farewell and Best Regards message, and given us some time to say good-bye and all that mushy stuff. Hey, I'm a softy and that kind of stuff is important to me. We spent a lot of years on that forum, and a lot of that time was supporting their product.

Yes. It is sad.

c-ya,

Dan

Yes. The trouble for Mackie is we made the stuff keep keeping on. No good for their hip pocket nerve. The second hand market must have been eating into their projections or, that's how they perceived it. In reality, with all of its quirkiness, the d8b could go on and on, 48k and all. Greg was too smart for the current personnel, even if he was a little mad. Come to think of it, I like that. Anyway, here we are. Thank you Peter H.

Hi GUYS!!!
It's good to see that we're still altogether at least......I did'nt suprise me though, Mackie closing the forums, I think we were all expecting it! And it must have been VERY time consuming for them running it as good as they did

This is an outrage.

I vote we launch a reprisal cyber-attack. Go on the rampage in the Sound Reinforcement area.

Hey all,
Wow, sometimes things happen at light speed! Glad Peter went through the trouble to put this together. At least we can keep the motors turning here while we still have this wonderful bit of technology. Don't want to ever jinx anything, but my board has been on 24/7 for so many months now behaving as she should.
Was a pretty lousy way to close the other board. I guess we all knew it would happen one day, hence the backup here ;)
I am stoked that you are all here to help the next generation of people learning about this desk and how incredible workflow solutions were so natural with this board. Still amazed how well thought out this creature is...

The irony is that the dxb and the "Hotwire" guitar sections are still going even though the guitar amp was discontinued about 2 hours after it was officially released. You can literally hear the crickets in the dxb section....

I have watched Mackie throw themselves on their sword several times through out the years. I wish I could say I was surprised but I have seen it all before.
