D8B locator only works spasmodically

Postby steveh » Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:43 am

OK so I'm new here and new to the D8B which handshakes nicely with my SDR24/96.
Maybe I'm missing something real obvious but my SDR operates from the D8B via MMC fine. I don't have an apogee card just the MIDI in and out fly lead connected to the D8B and the leads connected to MIDI in and out on my SDR the right way round.
So I have everything working just fine just learning about the automation when the MTC from the SDR stops and the locator on the D8B freezes and I'm stuck at that point.
Sometimes it will work after a reboot but mostly its gone to lunch for a good few hours, so I cant do much other than straight recordings no mixdowns as the locator on D8B is all 0's but the transport buttons on the desk do still run the SDR.
Next day I may get my MTC to the D8B back again for a few hours but mainly its down.
Anyone any clues as I'm out of ideas having removed, clean re-fitted the MIDI card in both the API slots. All permutations giving the same weird "sometimes working" but mainly not scenario. Pleeze help!!

The first thing to do is to determine where the failure is: The SDR's ability to generate MTC or the D8B's ability to read it. And of course, the cables that are connected between the two units.

I'd start with the cables...as they are the easiest to swap out. Failing in that, you are going to need some sort of reliable third unit (like an AKAI MPC something or other or a DAW with a MIDI I/O) that can send and receive MTC to start testing. Beyond that, I got nothin'.
