It appears to perhaps be some sort of Hashing Algorithm; as an example:

d8b Box ID : NXPD-EAVD-XWSX-GMIP-HDGN
d8b ESN-: 0000-01E6-6C1C
d8b OS v5.1 Unlock Code : 29E8-A082-DB4F

That's the info for my desk (which of course isn't working). So, at face value, logic seems to indicate the following:

d8b Box ID (some hash logic) against d8b ESN == d8b OS v5.1 Unlock Code;

So...

NXPD-EAVD-XWSX-GMIP-HDGN (#HASH) 0000-01E6-6C1C == 29E8-A082-DB4F;

The funky part (at least at this moment in time), is hashing a character string (AlphaNumeric Box ID) against a hexadecimal value (Hex ESN) to produce another hexadecimal value (Hex Unlock Code). I'd personally, as mentioned by others, benefit by eyeballing some other examples, preferably 'working'... even then, it's gonna take a bit of work, but I believe the collective here will be more than capable (with the appropriate Due Diligence applied) of working out this apparent 'Mystery' were all facing... :geek:

I personally believe it's not 'IF', but 'WHEN'... 8-)

Thoughts? Ideas? Any/all constructive input is surely welcome... the Floor is Open, Boyz n Girlz...

i think to give the working codes on here for all to see could be abused by other parties ( non members) not intrested in this but for other £,$, reasons, and of course mackie would not like it very much !
but am willing to send my codes by PM to one of the people who have already upto now only replyed in this thred.
a nominated colector can then give the sets to others in the thred intrested ??
seems a safe way to do this,

the sender can then say on here that they have sent theirs to the nominated collector.

so who want to collect ?

What does hashing mean, Dok?

Peter
In the scheme of things, there isn't one... just chaos.

It's essentially an algorithm that will take data and map it another value; as an example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_hash_function

In relevance to the case of what's taking place with the D8B, the nebulous process of taking the Box ID and the ESN and producing an Unlock Code... it's stated there's a database involved, which leads me to believe there's some sort of mapping taking place - the logic of which is the lynch pin of getting this resolved... I really would just LOVE to have a look at the damn code and database involved. It's an 'auth.asp' page that's being submitted to unlock the software, which leads me also to believe there's some sort of Micro$oft database involved, and the Rock n Roll Godz FORBID that it be a M$ Access *cough* database *cough*... they're NOTORIOUS for corruption...

The source code is the ultimate KEY... that's what we want as a community... :ugeek:

I nominate Dok to collect the pairs, but would like to take a crack at it myself. I'm no math genius and it has been a long time since calculus class at N.C. State, but then again I did make the deans list. Dok might be correct about the mapping. but I think with enough pairs we might be able to solve it anyway, maybe coming up with a list of probable unlock codes for each ESN.

Have a Blessed Day.

Proposals? Rules? Distribution? Other Stuff?

Sorry, at the office right now. But we as a group can hash (no pun intended) it out and I'll run herd wherever anyone seems to think it would be appropriate... ;-)

Thanx!

Once again, THANKs for your efforts...
You made mention that you might "purchase a 'license' from Mackie's web site for the OS v5.1 code... just to see where this all goes with Mackie.."
I had done this over a month ago, after giving them CC info they said they would reply with further instructions via e-mail. Well nearly (2) weeks later I call them to see what the delay was about..After spending the afternoon on the phone with them, exchanging serial# and such..
They said that they were sorry and that they would "refund" to my credit card.
My credit card had paid them in a mater of minutes.. Now over a month later, I still haven't received credit to my card.. The lady that answers the phone says 'just a minute' and puts me on hold, done this (3) times 1st time I was on hold for 17 min. before I gave up. 2nd time 20 min. 3rd time I was on hold for 30 min. still no one would take my call.
Just received 2nd statement from CC company since I had paid them,, still no refund.........

RonnR

File a dispute with your cc company immediately. They will issue you a temporary credit until they resolve it with mackie...the temporary credit will then become permanent.
Best of luck with this.

Yeah... I purchased one... and ultimately generated the same Auth Code I received 'elsewhere'... which of course obviously didn't work; no surprises actually, just confirmation of some things for me. However, as you could see from a prior post I did get an *official* Box ID - so that's my 'link' to Mackie (the Mothership) until this all gets OFFICIALLY resolved...

Haven't quite figured out how I'm going to approach this... I got a contact in Tech Support that I'll call and see what he's willing to divulge... who knows... :|

I ain't done here by any measure... stay tuned...
