It doesn't look like this has been covered but are you assigning the input channel via the route to tape buttons in the fat channel? I guess a better question is, are you telling the signal where to go?

Sorry for breaking in, but I have a question about this too.

When I record, I like to listen to the tape retur track. Let's say I connect my guitar to channel 1, assign it to track 3 out (for example), and then play it back on track 30 (for example). I use a DAW to record, and I have some guitar ampsims I like to use when tracking. I leave the recording channel fader down, and only listen to the signal I get back on channel 30. My problem is that I get feedback all the time, even if I uses a headset. It doesn't matter which channel I record from, which channel I route to, nor which track I get it back to the console. What's the trick here?

Fred,

Unfortunately I do not know a great deal about the HDR recorders (I use the Alesis HD24), so I am not sure if they come with any form of analogue input --- I am sure that others will be able to answer this.

If there are some analogue inputs (RCA, 1/4" or whatever), can you try recording something directly into these inputs --- say from a CD player, Ipod, etc, If you can do this then, hit the play button on the HDR to see if any of the VU meters are showing some form of signal on any of the tracks.

Assuming you have some signal on a HDR track, plug the recorder into the desk via the light pipes and go to Bank 2 then hit the play button on the HDR to see if you can see the signal on the desk.

If there are no analogue inputs on the HDR, I am not sure if there is a way (as on the HD24 recorders) of removing the disk drives and connecting them to a PC and from there uploading a couple of WAV/Aiff files to the hard drive, then re-install the drive back into the HDR and go from there.

Another thought --- do you have access to (say) a tape based ADAT recorder, or something similar. If so, connect the light pipe out from the ADAT recorder and connect this to one of the HDR's optical inputs and play the ADAT recorder and record the signal on to the HDR.

If none of the above helps, I can only suggest that other forum members who know about the HDR units might be able to help you. From what you have said previously, I would think that you have the desk set up correctly and that the problem lies somewhere in the HDR, but without having a signal to plsay, it makes it very hard to trace faults.

Sorry for not being more in touch, been gone for awhile. I finaly found one of the things I needed - the D8B 3.0V manual- oh yeh!!! Casey, good call - that was one step in the right direction. Plus I bought an apogee clock card, UFX card and so much more. signal path - signal path - signal path!!! I also finaly found a bad midi connection and the transport is functioning. I've been laying tracks and I LOVE THIS THING. Thanks for your continuing efforts and all the good advisement and heads up. - Fred Cox

Fred,

Sorry I could not have given more help and Casey's suggestion I had not even thought about, but it was an essential thing to do.

Anyway, glad you got it all working --- now you only have to purchase a few of the UFX plugins to get the most out of the card. Can I suggest a couple --- Final Mix,, Drawmer Compressor, Massenberg EQ for starters.

Yours,

David
