ribbon cable

Hi all

is there a way to get just the ribbon cable that keep
giving people most of there problems. mine just
keeps working loose all the time making my d8b
not have a signal or power. doe's anyone have this
ribbon cable for sell. or is there anything I can do
to stop it working loose. I would rather have a new cable

Kinking slightly (the male pins on the distribution PCB) the pins before re-seating the connector then add hot glue on both sides of the connector.

it would be my luck if I try to bend the pins just a little
one would break. you are talking about bending them just a little bit
right. its got to be hard to get the hot glue on both side it is
a tight spot. thanks for any help with this I am just tired of
having to unhook everything just to get this one cable seated down
over and over again. is there one for sell any where

Do NOT use any old glue... there is list of 'approved' SEALANTS... it's in the database. There's nothing wrong with the pins, it's the connector itself on the ribbon cable. I would personally do one of two things - get another cable or re-burnish the pins with a little DeOxit, and then reseat the cable and apply one of the above sealants - they won't make problems worse for ya...

I know many of my friend that have solved this problem by kinking a little bit the pins (one or two of them) to keep the connector in place ( i did that as well). I agree with DOK about the approved sealant but we use different types of sealants here in my country and it works wonders (the important thing is NOT to use those sealants that smell like vinegar.....they could corrode the metal on the PCB). Hot glue is used on all electronic parts that can move like EPROMS etc......i dont know why it should be a prob Dok.

I did this job myself and prevented many downtime hours.... As Dok said use some contact cleaner like Deoxit to clean the pins and the connector.... GOOD LUCK \m/

or do you have to buy the hole set. I remember one
time you could buy the hole set of ribbon cables
I think then they was selling for a little over $300 dollars
a set. I don't need the hole set. I would like to get this one cable
if I can or have someone make me one. does anyone on here
know anyone that could make this cable. just asking or if
anyone has one for sell. I just think mine is shot by me
having to keep going in the d8b and push it back in place
to many times. I could be wrong though. thanks

Sounds like connector end of the cable is fucked... the 'inside' of the pin contact(s) has spread a bit, making it loose. They're too small to 'fix' (easily), so getting a cable is most likely the least troublesome route regarding the mechanics - locating one is another thing entirely. I will agree with Carlo, just hit up Eric Russ on eBay - if he doesn't have one it's gonna be a little harder to locate but not impossible. The d8b's get parted out ALL the time and sold on eBay by more than one person... patience...

I'd still reburnish those contact pins on the board connector (w/ DeOxit) and lock down that connector regardless - it's just the Smart Thing to do while you're inside the unit...

Hey Carlo... just check the description of the sealants on DOW's page, I'm pretty sure you can cross-reference & find an equivalent on the European market. But I agree with you entirely, the Hot Glue route is perfectly acceptable - I'd just watch out for the way most glues 'setup'... if you have to get that cable off again, glues tend to not be as pliable as silicone sealants when cured. You also mentioned the KEY point of the whole matter, you don't want to use ANYTHING that's gonna corrode those pins (or connector pin connects), or Pandora's Electrical Box will majestically FUCK THINGS UP... most likely causing all manner of run-time 'Gremlins' and Anomalies until something just 'gives up' due to the loss of electrical connection...

At this point, I'm pretty sure you've done the Right Thing for your own situation, Brutha...
