Hello all. My first post on this forum. I'm very interested in the Probox but I don't have a d8b yet. I can get one at a good price (board only, no cpu/power supply) but I have a few concerns about it and was hoping someone here can help me out. As you see in the first pic all of the cards are gone. I don't think that will be a problem. My concern is in the rest of the pics. In the third pic you'll see that there is some kind of chip missing. Will this be something that will prevent me from using this purely as a DAW controller?

I also plan on installing a fanless power supply as per munkustrap's thread. Any help and/or advice is much appreciated.

Well the pictures didn't show up like I had planned. Anyways, all the fader boards are there as well as the board for the master fader and transport controls. It's that big empty space and the missing chip that I'm concerned about. Any thoughts?

Personally, I'd take the board back to the person you bought it from and stick it where the sun don't shine whilst informing him that if he doesn't give you your money back, you'll keep shoving it deeper and deeper. The board has been abused.

Hey Peter. Thanks!!! I didn't buy the board. I looked at it and took some pictures. I didn't want to buy without knowing for sure first. Thanks again.

Well, That's a relief.

Cheers.

Check out the database. There's a post I put up there ages ago regarding what to look for in a used d8b.

Hang around, the personnel are good here.

Hi groove machine

die IC that is missing is the ROM for the Brain board. There is the Software stored that makes it possible to upload the Firmware via the Serial Connection. Without that device nothing will work.
maybe you can use the ROM of the DSP board for that, as it is the same processor and should be the same Approach in the DSP board (booting and transfering Firmware) but I dont know it exactly.

best regrads

Hi All
Update of the project Probox:

a small audio part is now working. The probox will support now also a Monitor Controller and Phones/Cue audio function (without Mackie CPU!)

see my video on youtube:

Functions:
==============

Monitor Controller
-----------------------------------
- select from 3 Inputs 2Tracks A-C
- select Main or nearfield monitors (including volume control)
- Dim function
- mono function
- Studio Out with seperate volume control

Phones/Studio/Cue functions
------------------------------------
Phones/Cue 1 & 2 with following fuctions
- select input from ControlRoom,Aux9/10,Aux11/12
- Talkback (+ volume control)

NOTE! (to feed the Signal into the AUX you have to use the AUX 9/10 11/12 Output Jacks as Inputs). That means that the Signal you feed into the Mixer has to drive agains the Amp Output. Thats not a problem as Long as the Source you connect can drive a load of 120 Ohms. Usually headphone amps can do this without problems as they can drive headphones down wo 32 ohms.
If it works with a line signal I have to check.

Mic preamps can be used via Inserts (Output) and fed to a AD converter if wanted. The d8b converters are not possible t use
