SSD conversion for HDR

Today I installed a solid state drive in my HDR. I've always had problems with the HDR getting quirky when the size of a project file gets too big and also have to reinstall the OS far too often becaus of freezes and other issues. I'm always scared of losing projects before I can back them up. With the OCZ vertex 32GB SSD I believe my boot file will not get corrupt as often and this thing is also blazing fast. The HDR read and write speed was limited not by the processor but by the speed of the drive. It's also very quiet (no moving parts).

Hi Bruce,
All is well with my ssd's, no problems at all. Just make sure the ssd you buy is sata ll and that whatever adapter you buy has a jumper to set it as master. I think several guys have posted links on here to the adapters they bought.

Up and running with the SSD as a removable M90 drive on my HDR! YES!

I purchased one SATA II adaptor and it worked once jumped to be the "Master". Went to order more and the supplier says their distributor has discontinued the product. I've looked all the posts here in the forum and all suppliers say the same thing.

Found several on eBay but none of them have the jumpers to select Master. "They" (the eBay sellers), say it is done by the cable.

I know you said it has to be selected by the jumpers but .... Any thoughts?

I found your link and it looks like it should work.

I can't order it as it is a USA BestBuy. They will not take me as a client (no Zip Code) and the Canadian BestBuy does have this product.

I'll keep trying and see if I can find a Canadian alternative or a way to get it through Best Buy US.

That adapter should work just fine; IF I were a betting man, I'd put the mortgage on it...

Nice find, Mike... cause I can't locate any of Koutech adapters I was using anymore. I got curious, so here's another one that, again, should work as the drive interfacing is selectable :

Fairly inexpensive as well; looks like the standoffs that are already onboard would be a real benefit when physically mounting the assembly too...

I'd call NewEgg Canada, Bruce... they offer the adapter, but it appears they're currently out of stock :

I agree that it looks like the one you found will/should work. The one I have is completely enclosed. No electronics sticking out anywhere. very tidy.
